Method
- Gather all ingredients and measure them out before starting.
- In a medium non-stick saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, cocoa powder, and butter.
- Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and stir constantly with a wooden spoon. This prevents burning and ensures even cooking.
- Continue cooking and stirring for about 10 minutes, or until the mixture thickens and you can see the bottom of the pan when dragging your spoon through it.
- To test if it's ready: tilt the pan slightly - the mixture should pull away from the sides as a single mass.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a plate greased with butter or a shallow dish. Let cool to room temperature (about 30 minutes).
- Once cooled, butter your hands lightly and take small portions of the mixture (about 1 tablespoon each).
- Roll between your palms to form small balls about 1-inch in diameter.
- Place chocolate sprinkles on a plate and roll each brigadeiro in the sprinkles until completely coated.
- Arrange the finished brigadeiros in small paper candy cups.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving for the best texture.
