Classic Cuban-Style Picadillo

This classic Cuban picadillo dish with ground beef is quick and easy, and is great over rice. It can also be used as a filling for tacos or empanadas.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
  • ¼ cup green olives sliced
  • 2 tablespoons raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked white rice for serving

Method
 

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and bell pepper; sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon; cook until browned and no longer pink.
  5. Mix in crushed tomatoes, olives, raisins, cumin, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  7. Serve hot over steamed rice or as a filling for tacos or empanadas.
