Ingredients
  

  • 10 cups thinly sliced Granny Smith apples about 8-10 apples
  • 1 cup brown sugar divided
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter 1 stick
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with 1/2 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar, granulated sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the melted butter to the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  5. Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking dish, creating an even layer.
  6. Arrange the seasoned apple slices evenly over the bottom crust.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over the apples, covering them completely.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork.
  9. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving to let the filling set slightly.
