Ingredients
Method
- Prepare your ingredients by chopping the cabbage into 1-inch pieces, dicing the bacon and onion, and mincing the garlic.
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the diced bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the diced onion to the bacon and sauté until translucent, approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the vegetable oil to the pan if needed (you may need less if your bacon rendered sufficient fat).
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and toss to coat with the bacon fat and oil.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired.
- Cover the skillet and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the lid and continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the cabbage reaches your desired tenderness.
- If using, stir in the apple cider vinegar just before serving for a tangy kick.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary before serving hot.
