Coffee Jelly

Coffee jelly is a favorite Japanese dessert that's easy to make at home with brewed coffee, gelatin, and sugar for a refreshing after-dinner treat.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups brewed strong coffee
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • Whipped cream or sweetened condensed milk optional

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, stir the gelatin into the hot water. Let it bloom for about 2 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, pour the brewed coffee into a saucepan and warm gently over low heat.
  3. Add the sugar to the warm coffee and stir until fully dissolved. Remove from heat.
  4. Whisk the bloomed gelatin into the coffee mixture until completely incorporated.
  5. Pour the mixture into a shallow dish or individual molds. Allow it to cool slightly at room temperature.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or until the jelly is fully set.
  7. Cut the chilled jelly into cubes and serve in bowls. Top with whipped cream or a drizzle of sweetened condensed milk if desired.
