- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter on medium speed until creamy.
- Sift in the confectioners’ sugar and cocoa powder to avoid lumps. Mix on low until just combined.
- Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, then increase speed to medium. Beat for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Check consistency: add a tablespoon of milk at a time for a softer spread, or a bit more sugar for a firmer frosting.
- Use immediately to frost cooled cakes or cupcakes. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
