Juicy baked apples flavored with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg make a deliciously sweet and easy fall dessert to serve warm with ice cream.

Ingredients
  

  • 6 medium apples such as Honeycrisp or Gala, cored
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • Pinch of salt
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish with 1 tablespoon of the melted butter.
  2. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Place the cored apples in the prepared dish. Spoon the sugar-spice mixture evenly into each apple cavity.
  4. Drizzle the remaining melted butter over the filled apples, then sprinkle chopped nuts on top, if using.
  5. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until apples are tender and the filling is bubbly. For extra color, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  6. Let the apples rest for 5 minutes before serving warm, topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a decadent fall dessert.
