Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying about 1 inch deep
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method

  1. Pour 1-inch-deep oil into a heavy pan; heat to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat both eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and frothy.
  4. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until you have a pourable batter—similar to pancake batter.
  5. Fit a funnel or a squeeze bottle with a wide tip. Pour batter in a circular motion into the hot oil, forming a web-like pattern.
  6. Fry for about 2 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs or a slotted spatula to carefully flip.
  7. Drain on paper towels, then immediately dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
