Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 28-ounce can diced tomatoes
  • 1 15-ounce can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15-ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Heat a large saucepan over medium heat. Place the ground beef and chopped onion in the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and the onion is soft (about 5–7 minutes).
  2. Add the minced garlic and stir for 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the diced tomatoes (with juices), kidney beans, and black beans. Stir to combine.
  4. Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika. Stir well to coat all ingredients.
  5. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you want extra heat, add a pinch of cayenne or a dash of hot sauce.
  7. Serve hot in bowls with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, or chopped green onions.
