Fluffy French Toast

5 from 1 vote
A small scoop of flour makes this the best French toast recipe! Thickening the batter just a little makes tender, fluffy toast and helps it brown nicely.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 8 thick slices of bread brioche or Texas toast
  • Butter or oil for cooking

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  2. Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a pat of butter.
  3. Dip each bread slice in the batter, turning to coat both sides and letting excess drip off.
  4. Place soaked slices on the hot skillet. Cook 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  5. Transfer to a baking sheet and keep warm in a low oven while you finish the rest.
  6. Serve hot with maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
