Method
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks until well browned, about 10-12 minutes.
- Add diced onions to the meat and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Stir to combine, making sure to scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
- Add sugar, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix well to incorporate all seasonings.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for at least 1½ hours, stirring occasionally.
- About 10 minutes before serving, stir in the chopped fresh parsley.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving over your favorite pasta.
