Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 14.5 oz diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley optional, for garnish

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add diced onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, oregano, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package directions until al dente. They should be slightly firm as they'll continue cooking in the oven. Drain well.
  6. In a large bowl, combine the cooked noodles, beef mixture, sour cream, and 1 cup of shredded cheese. Stir until well combined.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Top with the remaining 1 cup of shredded cheese.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned.
  9. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
