- Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until sugar dissolves completely.
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and ¼ cup cold water until smooth to create a slurry.
- While the sauce is simmering, slowly pour in the cornstarch slurry while whisking constantly.
- Continue to simmer and stir for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil if using.
- Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring to a storage container.
