Ingredients

  • 12 cups cubed day-old bread French or sourdough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion finely chopped
  • 3 celery stalks chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and toast in a 350°F oven for 10 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic; cook until softened, about 8 minutes.
  3. Stir in poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 more minute to release aroma.
  4. In a large bowl, toss toasted bread cubes with the sautéed mixture. Gradually add chicken broth until the stuffing is moist but not soggy.
  5. Transfer to a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10 more minutes until top is crisp.
  6. Fluff with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve warm alongside turkey or roast.
