  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
  • Food coloring optional, for colored fondant

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients and ensure butter is at room temperature.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Gradually add the sifted confectioners' sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and pliable. The consistency should be similar to play-dough.
  5. If the fondant feels too sticky, add more confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time.
  6. If coloring the fondant, divide it into portions and knead in food coloring until you achieve your desired shade.
  7. Wrap the fondant tightly in plastic wrap to prevent drying and store at room temperature until ready to use.
