- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Stir in cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Transfer the buttered rum batter into a sealed jar and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to firm up.
- To serve, spoon 2 tablespoons of the chilled batter into a heatproof mug.
- Add 2 ounces of dark or spiced rum, then top with hot water.
- Stir until the batter fully dissolves into the liquid.
- Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg, and enjoy hot.
