Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup half & half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter plus extra for cooking
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Fresh berries for serving
  • Maple syrup or homemade coconut buttermilk syrup for drizzling

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the eggs, half & half, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until fully incorporated.
  2. Warm a large nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Start by melting 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter in the pan.
  3. Gently dip each whole Hawaiian roll into the custard, ensuring every surface is lightly coated, and transfer it to the skillet.
  4. Cook each roll for about 1 minute on each side, or until a beautifully toasted, golden crust forms. Add additional butter to the skillet as necessary.
  5. Once cooked, transfer the rolls to your serving platter, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with fresh berries and your choice of syrup.
