- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
- Use a pastry blender (or two knives) to cut in the shortening until the mixture looks like fine crumbs.
- Add the milk all at once and gently stir until the dough is just moistened — do not overmix.
- Bring your chicken stew or soup to a gentle simmer. Drop spoonfuls of dough on top, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Cover and let steam for 15–20 minutes until dumplings are puffed and cooked through.
