These vibrant mushy peas are simple to make with green peas, cream, and pepper for a classic side dish for any fried fish, especially cod.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 10 ounce packages frozen green peas
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream optional for extra richness
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Salt to taste

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients and heat a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the frozen peas and just enough water to cover. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  3. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until peas are tender.
  4. Drain any excess water, then stir in the cream (if using) and season with salt and cracked pepper.
  5. Mash the peas lightly with a potato masher or fork until you reach your desired texture.
  6. Serve hot alongside cod, fish and chips, or your favorite grilled meats.
