Ingredients
Method
- Generously butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Arrange the slices of French bread in the prepared baking dish, slightly overlapping if necessary.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure all pieces are coated.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 8 hours.
- The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- While the oven is heating, prepare the topping: In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Remove the baking dish from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for 10-15 minutes.
- Sprinkle the prepared topping evenly over the soaked bread.
- Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
