Method
- Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, brown the sausage over medium heat until fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks (about 8-10 minutes). Drain excess grease.
- Arrange the cubed bread in an even layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the bread layer.
- Distribute the shredded cheese over the sausage layer.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the baking dish, making sure all bread pieces are moistened.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, or at least 8 hours.
- When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
- If desired, sprinkle with paprika and fresh parsley before serving.
