Ingredients
Method
- Thoroughly wash the russet potato under cool water, scrubbing away any dirt. Pat it dry with a paper towel.
- Using a fork, poke 8-10 holes all over the potato. This allows steam to escape during cooking and prevents a messy explosion in your microwave.
- Optional: For an even more tender result, dampen a paper towel and wrap it around the potato. This creates steam while cooking.
- Place the potato on a microwave-safe plate, making sure it's centered for even cooking.
- Microwave on HIGH for 5 minutes.
- Carefully turn the potato over (it will be hot!) and microwave for another 5 minutes.
- Insert a fork or knife into the center of the potato. If it slides in easily, the potato is done. If there's resistance, microwave for additional 1-minute intervals until tender.
- Let the potato rest for 1-2 minutes before cutting it open. This allows the interior to finish cooking.
- Cut the potato open lengthwise, fluff the interior with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.
