Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 red bell pepper thinly sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • ½ cup carrot ribbons
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. In a medium bowl, toss beef strips with cornstarch, a pinch of salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat.
  3. Add half the beef in a single layer; stir-fry 1–2 minutes until just browned. Transfer to a plate and repeat with remaining beef.
  4. Lower heat to medium-high; add remaining oil, garlic, bell pepper, broccoli, and carrots. Stir-fry 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  5. Return beef to the pan. Stir in soy sauce and brown sugar, tossing to coat all ingredients.
  6. Cook 1–2 more minutes, allowing sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. Tip: For an extra kick, add a teaspoon of chili garlic sauce or a dash of sesame oil.
  8. Remove from heat and serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
