Ingredients

  • 1 package 0.25 ounce active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 cup warm water 110-115°F
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until creamy and foamy, about 5-10 minutes. This step ensures your yeast is active.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Mix with a wooden spoon until the dough comes together into a slightly sticky ball.
  4. Lightly oil the bowl, place the dough back in it, and cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, approximately 30-45 minutes.
  5. Once risen, gently punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
  6. Divide into two equal portions for two medium pizzas, or leave whole for one large pizza.
  7. Shape the dough by pressing it out with your fingers or rolling it with a rolling pin to your desired thickness.
  8. Transfer to a pizza pan or baking sheet dusted with cornmeal or semolina flour to prevent sticking.
  9. Add your favorite toppings and bake in a preheated oven at 450°F (230°C) for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
