Red Wine Reduction Sauce

This simple red wine reduction sauce with beef broth and butter is delicious drizzled over steak. It's easy to make and helps elevate a dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small shallot finely chopped
  • 1 cup dry red wine
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method
 

  1. Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped shallot and cook until golden, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in the red wine and simmer until reduced by half, approximately 8 minutes.
  4. Stir in the beef broth and continue to reduce until the sauce coats the back of a spoon, about 5 more minutes.
  5. Remove from heat and swirl in the unsalted butter until glossy.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Serve warm drizzled over your favorite cut of steak.
