Ingredients

  • 4 large apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg or a splash of vanilla extract

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter until it begins to foam.
  2. Stir in apple slices so they’re evenly coated in melted butter.
  3. Sprinkle brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt over the apples. Stir gently to combine.
  4. Sauté for about 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and the sugar has formed a syrupy sauce.
  5. If using nutmeg or vanilla, stir it in now and remove from heat.
