Ingredients
  

  • 1 bunch asparagus spears
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter optional
  • 1 lemon cut into wedges (optional garnish)

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients. Wash asparagus and trim off the woody ends (about 1–2 inches).
  2. Bring 1 inch of water to a boil in a large skillet or saucepan fitted with a steamer insert.
  3. Place asparagus in the steamer basket, cover, and steam for 4–6 minutes until bright green and just tender-crisp.
  4. Carefully remove asparagus and transfer to a serving platter. Season with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil or a pat of butter.
  5. Garnish with lemon wedges and serve immediately.
