Smooth Sweet Tea

Sweet tea is a classic Southern drink made by steeping tea bags in a pitcher; sweeten with sugar and keep chilled for a refreshing drink on hot days!

Ingredients
  

  • 8 black tea bags Lipton or Luzianne
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 cups water divided
  • 1 pinch baking soda
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Fresh lemon slices and mint sprigs optional garnish

Method
 

  1. Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan, then remove from heat.
  2. Add the tea bags and a pinch of baking soda. Steep for 10 minutes for a smooth, balanced brew.
  3. Carefully remove and gently squeeze tea bags to extract every bit of flavor.
  4. While the tea is warm, whisk in the sugar until completely dissolved.
  5. Pour the concentrate into a large pitcher and add the remaining 4 cups of cold water.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until well chilled.
  7. Serve over ice, garnished with lemon slices or mint, and enjoy!
