Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups whole milk room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and salt until the dry ingredients are fully combined.
  2. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to form a smooth, lump-free mixture.
  3. Place the pan over medium heat. Continue whisking until the gravy thickens and gentle bubbles appear around the edges, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and immediately stir in vanilla extract and butter until melted and glossy.
  5. Pour hot chocolate gravy over split biscuits, pancakes, or waffles and serve right away.
