This sugar cream pie made with homemade vanilla pudding in a baked pie shell is drizzled with melted butter and cinnamon and broiled until the topping is bubbly.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 9-inch pre-baked pie crust
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar for topping
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt until smooth.
  2. Place over medium heat and stir constantly until the mixture begins to gently boil.
  3. To temper yolks, add 2 tablespoons of the hot milk mixture into yolks while whisking; then pour yolk mixture back into the saucepan.
  4. Continue cooking and stirring for about 2 minutes, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of melted butter.
  5. Pour the warm vanilla custard into the baked pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  6. Combine the remaining melted butter with sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle evenly over the custard layer.
  7. Place under the broiler on high for 2–3 minutes, watching closely, until the topping is bubbly and golden.
  8. Remove from oven, let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set.
  9. Slice into 8 servings and enjoy your homemade creampie masterpiece!
