Ingredients

  • 2 slices day-old white bread crumbled
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix crumbled bread and milk; let sit until absorbed.
  3. In a large bowl, add ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and soaked crumbs. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Shape into 1-inch meatballs (about 24 total) and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and cooked through.
  6. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Whisk in flour to form a roux, then slowly add beef broth and cream. Simmer until sauce thickens, stirring constantly.
  7. Add baked meatballs to the gravy, spoon sauce over, and heat through for 2–3 minutes.
