The Best Homemade Cinnamon Bread Recipe

An easy quick cinnamon swirl bread recipe made from batter with a swirl of flavor from cinnamon sugar. Even better the next day for breakfast or tea.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar optional, for glaze
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk optional, for glaze
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract optional, for glaze

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, beat the egg lightly. Add milk, oil, and vanilla, then whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Be careful not to overmix – a few small lumps are fine.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together ⅓ cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon for the swirl.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle about ⅔ of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
  7. Drizzle the melted butter over the cinnamon-sugar layer.
  8. Add the remaining batter on top, spreading gently to cover the cinnamon layer.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
  10. Using a knife or skewer, swirl through the batter a few times to create a marbled effect. Don't overmix or you'll lose the distinct swirls.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean with a few moist crumbs.
  12. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. If adding the optional glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread.
