Ingredients

  • 4 slices white bread quality bread makes a difference!
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 4 ounces Cheddar cheese thinly sliced
  • Pinch of salt optional

Method

  1. Gather all your ingredients and let the butter soften at room temperature for easy spreading.
  2. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. The key to a perfect grilled cheese is cooking it low and slow for even browning.
  3. Generously butter one side of each bread slice, making sure to spread the butter all the way to the edges for maximum crispiness.
  4. Place two slices of bread, butter-side down, in the heated skillet.
  5. Layer the cheese evenly over both bread slices in the pan. For extra flavor, you can add a tiny pinch of salt over the cheese.
  6. Top with the remaining bread slices, butter-side up, creating two sandwiches.
  7. Cook for about 4-5 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Carefully flip each sandwich using a spatula and press down lightly to help the cheese melt evenly.
  9. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until the second side is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
  10. Remove from heat, let rest for 1 minute (this helps prevent molten cheese burns!), then slice diagonally and serve immediately.
