Ingredients

  • cups rolled oats old-fashioned, not quick oats
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup honey
  • cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup chopped nuts almonds, walnuts, or pecans
  • ¼ cup sunflower seeds
  • cup dried fruits cranberries, raisins, or chopped apricots

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Spread the rolled oats on a large baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until lightly golden.
  3. While oats are toasting, melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add honey and brown sugar, stirring until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  5. Add the toasted oats to the butter mixture, stirring until thoroughly coated.
  6. Let the mixture cool for about 5 minutes before adding chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking pan, pressing firmly and evenly using the back of a greased spatula or your hands.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges begin to brown slightly.
  9. Allow the granola mixture to cool completely in the pan (at least 2 hours or overnight) before cutting into bars.
  10. Cut into 18 bars and store in an airtight container, with parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
