- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold salted water, bring to a boil, then simmer until tender, 15–20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion, carrots, and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute.
- Add ground turkey, cook until no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; simmer 3–5 minutes. Fold in peas.
- Spread turkey mixture into the prepared dish. Top evenly with mashed potatoes and sprinkle cheese if desired.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
