Ingredients

  • 3 large potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ½ cup chicken or turkey broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold salted water, bring to a boil, then simmer until tender, 15–20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion, carrots, and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic; cook 1 minute.
  4. Add ground turkey, cook until no pink remains, about 6–8 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme; simmer 3–5 minutes. Fold in peas.
  5. Spread turkey mixture into the prepared dish. Top evenly with mashed potatoes and sprinkle cheese if desired.
  6. Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden. Let rest 5 minutes before serving.
