- In a large bowl, mix the warm water, cornmeal, shredded mozzarella, butter, and salt. Knead until a soft, pliable dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Form each piece into a ball and place between two sheets of plastic wrap.
- Flatten each ball to about ½-inch thickness. Heat a non-stick skillet with butter and cook each arepa for 5–6 minutes per side, until golden brown.
- Serve warm, splitting open the arepas and filling with extra cheese or avocado.
