Ingredients
  

  • 1.75 cups white sugar
  • 1.75 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Method
 

  1. Beat sugar and butter together in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Beat in vanilla extract for that sweet vanilla aroma.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg; stir into creamed mixture until a soft dough forms.
  5. Chill dough for 30 minutes, then roll out to ¼-inch thickness and cut into shapes.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Cool on wire racks and enjoy your buttery, crumbly tea cakes.
