Reuben Sandwich

A Reuben sandwich is easy to make with layers of tender corned beef, melted Swiss cheese, tangy sauerkraut, and creamy Thousand Island dressing grilled between slices of buttery rye bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 8 ounces thinly sliced corned beef about 8 slices
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup sauerkraut well drained
  • 4 tablespoons Thousand Island dressing
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter softened

Method
 

  1. Gather all ingredients and preheat a large griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  3. On the unbuttered side of four slices, spread 1 tablespoon of Thousand Island dressing.
  4. Layer each with two slices of corned beef, two slices of Swiss cheese, and ΒΌ cup of sauerkraut.
  5. Spread dressing on the top slice, place it buttered side out, and close the sandwich.
  6. Place sandwiches on the preheated griddle; cook 3–4 minutes per side until bread is golden and cheese is melted.
  7. Press gently with a spatula or sandwich press for an even melt.
  8. Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve immediately.
